Mandi Perkins: Self-titled

(Unsigned)

This 4-song demo is really good. It would make you wonder why Mandi isn't signed by a record label yet. She has been doing the club circuit, although it looks like she's taken a bit of a hiatus over the last 6 months, so maybe there are personal reasons that have interfered with the advancement of her career. The four songs are titled "Misbehave," "Make Me Wonder," "Hiding," and "Victim," and you can listen to two of them on her website, as well as a number of other songs in her repertoire. But nothing's for sale yet.

"Misbehave" and "Make Me Wonder" are rocking tunes and the second of these really cooks. It's got a tight little guitar solo that had me thinking early Pretenders for a moment, and I think Mandi could take her career in that direction if she wanted to. The third and fourth songs, ballads both, are nice enough but not remarkable. Mandi has a strong voice, a strong group of musicians backing her up, and a visit to her website will reveal that she is not unattractive in the slightest. The lyrics tend to be those of a typical angry, self-pitying, ostensibly independent, man-hating woman of the 21st century, all of which should work in her favor. In short, she's got the goods, and opportunity will come calling for her at some point, if she's ready to answer the knock.
