Just Like Yesterday

(Unsigned)

The Just Like Yesterday page

Just Like Yesterday is a nicely produced, attractively packaged CD by an unsigned band of the same name. The band consists of Jonathan Morris on the drums, Eric Patten on guitar, and Nazareth LaMay on bass. Interestingly, but perhaps not surprisingly, the jacket makes no mention of who the lead vocalist is. That might be out of fear that his singing is so bad he could be criminally prosecuted for it. Actually, it sounds like two people are singing on some of the tracks, although it's unclear as to whether it's a single unnamed perpetrator singing both tracks or whether it's a conspiracy of two. I tend to favor the first theory because it defies the laws of probability that two such horrendous voices could be found in any random selection of three human beings.

Just Like Yesterday

If it sounds like I'm being a bit harsh here, it's because I'm disappointed that these young men have put so much time and energy into this project, all for such an unlistenable end product. Perhaps nobody has ever told them straight out before how awful their vocals are, so I'll be the first: The jacket ought to have a legal disclaimer that "No actual cats were boiled in a donut fryer during the recording of this CD."

The songs consist of rapid-fire vocals that are a bit interesting at first but quickly become repetitive. The lyrics are no more or less pointless than most lyrics on the market. The guitarin' and bassin' are adequate. But, oh, those vocals --- Yikes! Painful. Guys, if you really love rock, stop playing it. Or maybe follow in the steps of Don Caballero and go instrumental only
